On Thursday 3 September, we finally held our annual Afternoon Tea (after having to postpone it from a particularly hot week back in June!) - and awarding of the Cass Cup for Outstanding Service to the Club. About 20 people came along to Hutton Cricket Club and feasted on an array of sandwiches, cakes, tea and scones, provided by the lovely Nicola Parry.
As planned, we awarded the Janet Cass Memorial Cup to the 2026 winner as voted for by you—the Club membership. This year, there were two main contenders, and we had to remind members to send in their votes as they could make all the difference! In the end, Club Chairman, William Wells was able to award the cup to Karol Patten for all her hard work on the committee, front of house, backstage AND, this year, for acting in her first full production and impressing the director, cast and crew with how she seemed to be able to be in all places back and on stage at once and just when you needed her!
Karol was quite surprised and a tad emotional as she happily accepted the award. She stated that she was pleased to receive the award especially as it was Janet Cass (after whom the Cup is named) who brought Karol into the Marlborough. Karol accurately related how Janet was always pleased to have brought people into the Club, with the phrase "she's one of mine you know..."
Well deserved, Karol!
It was lovely to see many familiar faces join us for the tea, and a few new members and friends as well - thank you all for coming.
